Be More had sent a request to all volunteers to join the photo competition. We could send our most beautiful and happy pictures and they would choose the 7 best pics. At the reunion day, we had to vote for the best photo. A picture of a very cute baby in a bucket with water won the competition. Surprisingly enough, 2 of the seven photos were mine: one of two boats and the sunset in Cape Maclear, and one where Anne jumped in front of a bright sky, with the silhouette of a jeep in the background. Lucky enough the former photo won the third price! I received a Tony’s Chocolonely Fairtrade chocolate and two little angel key hangers made by South-African Zulu women, of which I gave one to Anne.
It was good to come together with fellow volunteers to reflect on memories and difficulties upon arrival. We had a delicious lunch with Eva in Nijmegen, just before the meeting and it was fun to see each other now without the dirty clothes and Malawian chitenge’s (wrappers) and flip flops or hiking shoes. We did not see each other in a few months but we immediately felt as a happy family again as we became to know each other very well in that month on the project. It was a great day to remember the moments of African happiness and to share the longing of walking the sandy dust roads in the early mornings. We all truly missed it and each other, and many of us have said to go back one day!
